The challenge: photographs and words about the word of the day from dictionary.com. Can i handle it and be creative enough to illustrate simple words? Who knows. But at least I'll expand my vocabulary.

Extant comes from Latin exstare, "to stand out, to project,
hence to be prominent, to be visible, to exist," from ex-,
"out" + stare, "to stand."

To me, what I've noticed where I live and where I work are the old signs on all the old garment factories (as well as some older grafitti). These have not been painted over or lost completely:
